HYDERABAD, July 5

AUROBINDO Pharma Ltd (APL), the Hyderabad-based pharma major, has floated a separate division called `Institution', dedicated to offering anti-retrovirals in generic forms.

In a press release, the Vice-President of APL, Mr Rony Batabyal, said offering anti-retrovirals in generic form would be much more economical to HIV-positive consumers.

The new division would offer products in the three groups in the antiretroviral segment.

According to Mr Batabyal, the cost of triple-drug therapy two years back was more than Rs 10,000 per month. "When Aurobindo launched its branded products in this segment, the same combinations cost around Rs 3,500 per month. Now, with the help of generic molecules, the company is confidant to offer at the cost at which all the needy will be able to afford the same."

Stating that the company was already exporting the bulk and formulations of anti-retrovirals to different countries including South Africa, he said the company would be able to offer wider product options at affordable prices for the benefit of patients with the backing of global standard R&D and manufacturing facilities.
