Alliances & Joint Ventures Strand Genomics, Biocon arm in joint venture Our Bureau
BANGALORE, July 5 THE Bangalore-based Strand Genomics and Clinigene International, a subsidiary of Biocon India, today announced a strategic partnership. Strand will use its proprietary data mining tool `Soochika' to analyse clinical data generated by Clinigene in various registries to discover patterns that can give insights into diseases, said a press release. "The partnership is the first of its kind in the country to pursue biomarker discovery in specific disease segments through clinical research on a bioinformatics platform. We are confident that we will announce early breakthroughs," said the release quoting Dr A.S. Arvind, COO, Clinigene. Clinical data, when analysed, can offer biological wisdom, which in turn could lead to novel diagnostics and therapies. Strand has developed proprietary algorithms for finding interesting patterns in clinical data and has already used the algorithms to unearth significant parameters. "We expect the combination to create valuable intellectual property," said Dr Vijay Chandru, Chairman and Chief Scientist of Strand Genomics. Clinigene has developed registries based on patient populations in diabetes and lipidemia with valuable clinical data at three levels biochemical, proteomic and genomic.
