New Products & Services Samsung expands washing machine range with 6 models Our Bureau
MUMBAI, July 2 SAMSUNG India Electronics Ltd., has introduced six new models of washing machines in the market with capacities ranging between 5.5 kg to 13 kg. Marking an investment of Rs 25 crore, the company intends enhancing the production capacity of its washing machine line from 1.8 lakh units per annum to 3 lakh units a year by the last quarter of this year at its Noida plant. At a press conference, Mr R. Zutshi, Vice President, Sales, Samsung India Electronics, said, "The season for sales of washing machines starts now. We are expecting a jump in volume share from 15 per cent to 17 per cent through the new launches.'' Targeting sales of two lakh washing machines, Samsung is now catering to all segments in the fully automatic and semi-automatic washing machine market. The company also announced the launch of three new sound-oriented CTV models with woofer in the conventional 21-inch and the flat TV segment as well as a 29'' in the conventional segment. Samsung India is targeting flat TV sales of one lakh units this year. Besides the company plans to set up 10 Samsung Digit Allhomes in addition to the existing 25 Digital Plazas. Adds Mr Zutshi, ''The Samsung DigitAllhome goes beyond the concept of a Digital Plaza because through Digit Allhome we are trying to create a more interactive environment so that the customer can visualise the products in his or her own home settings.'' The company set up its first Samsung DigitAllhome in Delhi in April of 2002. Registering a turnover of Rs 755 crore in the first six months this year, Samsung is hoping to record a turover of Rs 1,520 crore by the end of the year. Last year it clocked a turnover of Rs 1,350 crore and claims to have made profits within the first two years of operations in the country.
