Malaysia to host global pepper meet

MUMBAI: The Jakarta-based International Pepper Community (IPC) has organised a series of meetings during September 23-27 at Kuching in the Sarawak region of Malaysia.

The Peppertech meeting, a technical forum for IPC, will identify problems and suggest solutions in the areas of production, processing, marketing and product development. A symposium on Pests and Diseases of Pepper will also be held.

A meeting of pepper exporters will discuss economic issues of production, export, prices and prospects of world pepper trade, while the Pepperexim meeting is slated to examine supply/demand situation of each producing and consuming country, quality improvement and application of technology.

The meetings organised by IPC in collaboration with Malaysia's Ministry of Primary Industries and Pepper Marketing Board is expected to attract representatives from producing countries such as India. Brazil, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Ecuador, Dominican Republic as well as traders from consuming countries like the US, Europe, Canada, South Africa, Singapore etc. apart from officials from FAO and UNESCAP.
