Reconsider decision

It is strange to read that the `Government allows FDI in print media' (Business Line, June 26) at a time when the furore over the article on the Prime Minister, Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee, in the Time magazine is just fading.

Allowing only 26 per cent Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in news and current affairs publications, and 74 per cent foreign investment in non-news and non-current affairs journals is not adequate precaution.

It could try to influence public opinion, policies, and be harmful to national interests. Major Opposition parties and even NDA allies, such as the TDP, are opposing the move.

The Government should reconsider the decision and try to arrive at a consensus in the matter.
