APERC tariff principles opposed

Our Bureau

HYDERABAD, June 21

THE long-term tariff principles (LTTP) proposed by the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) for fixing power tariff rates were opposed by a majority of the people who expressed their views at the one-day public hearing held here.

They pointed out that LTTP, "are anti-consumer and pro-Transco and pro-discoms''. Nine persons, representing different organisations, turned up at the public hearing. A representative of BSES, Mr K. P. Maheswar, defended the tariff principles stating that they would render discoms self-sufficient.

On the whole, APERC has received 35 responses which included suggestions from distribution licensees, consumer associations, investors, financial institutions, consulting firms and industry experts. Seventeen of them wanted to personally appear at the public hearing, but only nine turned up.
