New Products & Services Red Hat unveils Linux OS Our Bureau
BANGALORE: Red Hat has announced the launch of the first enterprise class Linus operating system in India, called Advanced Server. The OS was born because there was no mission critical application on Linux and the company felt a need for mainstream applications to be built on it, said Mr Javed Tapia, Director, Red Hat. There is also interest among enterprises to adopt Linus, he said. Net4India runs its entire operations on Linux, as does BIFR, said company officials. Red Hat is looking at the e-governance market to provide its OS. The company's revenues come in from the support services that it offers for the OS. At present, Red Hat has 200 customers in the country who pay for these services. Mr Tapia said that the company expected its revenues to grow by 50 per cent this year and the number of its customers to go up more than that. Linux is more accepted in India, which is a traditionally Unix country, he said.
