Former ITC official moves court in FERA case

Our Legal Correspondent

KOLKATA, June 18

MR G.K.P. Reddy, formerly of ITC Ltd, has filed an application before the Metropolitan Magistrate, Calcutta, seeking release from the alleged Foreign Exchange Regulation Act (FERA) case filed by the Enforcement Directorate against ITC Ltd and some of its former executives.

Since the new Act of FEMA has replaced the old FERA, no cognisance of offence in the old Act can be taken, and under Section 51 of the old Act, cognisance cannot be taken after expiry of two years when the new Act has come into force.
