Make India a sub-contracting base: CII
Our Bureau
NEW DELHI, June 18
THE Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has suggested key measures for the domestic small-scale industry to achieve compatibility and competitiveness in the emerging global scenario.
The first suggestion is to develop India as a sourcing point and a sub-contracting base in order to make the sector competitive and match international standards.
The chamber has suggested that the domestic SSI sector be repositioned in certain strategic sectors where the country has proven comparative advantages. The country has competitive advantages in the knowledge based, manufacturing and service industry, these sectors should be developed, it added.
Besides, if the need arises, CII has suggested that mergers and amalgamations of the various small industries be carried out. It has also called for redefining SSI units on the basis of number of people employed rather than on the basis of investment limits.
CII has also suggested technological upgradation of the sector to achieve lower production costs, better quality, and price competitiveness.
