`Golden hour' help comes on scooters

Our Bureau

PUNE, June 17

ROAD accident victims in Pune's busy Pimpri-Chinchwad industrial belt will now have a better chance at life thanks to the effort of the Lokmanya Medical Foundation, which has launched a unique scooter ambulance project to provide critical life-saving assistance to victims.

The project is being launched in collaboration with two-wheeler manufacturer, Kinetic Motors, which has helped develop the two-wheelers to carry mobile doctors with life-saving equipment to the victims who often succumb to the injuries due to lack of immediate medical attention.

The project was inaugurated by Kinetic Motors Chairman, Mr Arun Firodia, with an initial fleet of three scooters.

The scooters, to be manned by doctors from the hospital, are equipped with basic equipment such as oxygen cylinders, artificial respirators, laryngoscopes, suction and splint, all designed to stabilise the patient before the hospital's mobile ICU reaches the accident spot.
