Garment exports up 9.22% in May

NEW DELHI, June 17

GARMENT exports to restricted countries have registered a 9.22 per cent increase in value terms during May 2002 at $431.10 million compared to the export performance of May 2001.

An official release said that the total export of garments to restricted countries stood at 119.6 million pieces in May, representing a 5.65 per cent jump to the quantity of exports recorded in the same month during the previous year.

Export of readymade garments during the first five months of the current fiscal stood at $1,838.50 million, representing a 1.11 per cent increase to the export performance in the same period during the previous year.
