No move to issue licences to foreign accountants: ICAI

Our Bureau

NEW DELHI, June 13

THE Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has said that there is no move for granting licence to foreign accounting firms for setting up practice in India.

In a statement on Thursday, ICAI said that any such proposal seeking amendments in the Chartered Accountants Act has not been discussed at any forum in the institute.

This press statement comes in the wake of a news report in a section of media that ICAI has firmed up a proposal seeking an amendment to the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949 and the Chartered Accountants Regulation 1988 to allow it to grant licences to foreign firms.

ICAI said that the Central Council has constituted a working group to review the proposals for amendments submitted to the Government in 1994.
