Private Banks Agri-Biz & Commodities - Farm credit Karnataka Bank to widen farm credit portfolio Our Bureau
MANGALORE, June 11 KARNATAKA Bank has plans to broadbase its agri-credit portfolio. The bank, which has lent 23 per cent of its gross advances to the agricultural sector in Karnataka surpassing the RBI target of 18 per cent, now plans to enter other States in a bid to widen its base. In a press release issued here, the bank has said that the Chairman of the bank, Mr Ananthakrishna, announced the bank's intention to increase agri-credit in his key-note address at the 15th annual conference of agricultural field officers held at Shimoga recently. Fifty-two AFOs/managers from all over the country are said to have participated in the conference. Mr Ananthakrishna is also said to have noted that the non-performing assets under the agricultural sector have declined, mainly due to the extension of relief measures by the bank to the farmers without diluting the lending discipline as per RBI guidelines.
