MUMBAI, June 7

IN a bid to strengthen its distribution network, the computer peripherals manufacturer, TVS Electronics Ltd (TVS-E) has announced that it is entering into a partnership with IT distribution company, Tech Pacific (India) Ltd.

Tech Pacific will distribute TVS-E's dot matrix printers, keyboards and consumables such as print heads and ribbons. With this tie-up, TVS-E expects to further enhance its market leader position in dot matrix printers segment. The company claims it currently has a 35-40 per cent share of the Indian printer market with annual sales of about 150,000 units.

``We have been in talks with Tech pacific for a couple of years, but nothing materialised due to the difficult market conditions last year. However, we feel that now is the right time to go ahead with the alliance as the market is bottoming out and revival is imminent,'' said Mr Srini Nageshwar, Director, TVS-En at a press conference held here to announce the partnership.

Speaking about the growth potentials for the dot matrix printer segment, Mr Nageshwar said, ``there is a substantial growth potential for dot matrix printers as they cater to the huge transaction printing market. Besides, given the low paper and consumables cost, these printers are best suited for the Indian market. Also, dot matrix printers are well suited for local language use in government offices and schools. Hence we expect good, sustainable growth for the dot matrix printers market in India, going forward.''

TVS-E is part of the $1.5 billion TVS Group with two divisions — the e-appliances and eServices divisions. The e-appliances division offers a product range including dot matrix printers, UPS systems, keyboards, language solutions and retail automation systems. The eServices division offers contract manufacturing, financial transaction and outsourced procurement services.
