Tourism KSIDC in pact to build global tourist village Our Bureau
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, May 30 KERALA State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Bahrain-based Mahnami Hotels and Resorts for the establishment of an international tourist village at Nedumbassery near Kochi. The Rs 33-crore village will spread over an area of 24 acres. The Bahrain-based Mohamed Salahuddin Consulting Engineering Bureau will design and execute the project. The village will have buildings of different architectural styles from various nations and regions, comprising studios and one and two-bedroom apartments. There will also be exclusively designed honeymoon cottages. The Industries Minister, Mr P.K. Kunhalikutty, said that the project was a curtain raiser to the Global Investors' Meet (GIM) scheduled in November this year. GIM venue shifted to Kovalam: The Minister also said that the main session of the meet on November 23 and 24 would be held at nearby Kovalam. The earlier plan was to hold it in Kochi. However, as a run-up to the main meet, business sessions will be conducted in Kochi from November 20 to 22 where project proposals will be discussed in detail before being presented at the main session. Mr Kunhalikutty said that PricewaterhouseCoopers, the consultants for the meet, had already held preliminary discussions with the various State Government departments and identified a slew of viable project ideas to be marketed among the prospective global investors. The State Government has planned a series of campaigns, including roadshows in various parts of the world, participation in trade fairs and exhibitions and advertisements in different media, to attract investors to the State. The roadshows in the US will be kicked off at Chicago in July along with the convention of Federation of Kerala Associations in North America (Fokana) and later cover Houston, Silicon Valley, New York and Washington. Roadshows have also been planned in Germany, the UK, West Asia and the Far East.
