Database to check fake certificates

Our Bureau

BANGALORE: The Karnataka Information Techonology Department along with Wipro Infotech has created a database of students in some of the State's Universities to verify fraudulent degree certificates.

The online database had considerably reduced the workload of the US Consulate in Chennai on checking certificates of those who applied for H1B visas, the Vice-Counsul in-charge of anti-fraud at the consulate, Ms Amanda B Cronkhite, told newspersons here today.

Database had been created for Bangalore, Gulbarga and Karnatak Universities, while the process was on for Mysore and Kuvempu Universities, the State IT Secretary, Mr Vivek Kulkarni, who was also present, said.
