Infam coconut processing unit at Angamally

Our Bureau

KOCHI, May 26

THE Indian Farmers Movement (Infam) plans to set up Kera Complex, a coconut processing unit, at Thuravoor Panchayat in nearby Angamally.

The formal inauguration of the unit will be held on May 29.

The proposed factory would have the capacity to process as many as 50,000 coconuts daily.

This could support coconut farmers in the State by increasing the market value of the nuts.

The products expected from the factory are coconut milk, milk powder, coconut cream and oil.

A seven-member director board has been formed for the complex, which is a private limited company with an investment of Rs 50 lakh.

Another unit that can process about 50,000 tender coconuts is also under consideration.

The State has potential for establishing 20 units for processing tender coconuts, a press release said.
