Roadways Look who's talking? Bijoy Ghosh
The Chennai City Traffic Police have thought of a novel way to spread the message of traffic safety playing music through speakers at an important junction on the arterial Anna Salai, interspersed with messages on the need to obey traffic rules. However, many wonder why the police had to use cone type loud speakers when their use has been banned ``in general'' by the Pollution Control Board. They also point out that the police should not discriminate between road users who violate the rules either jumping signals or cutting yellow lines. Most often, public transport buses go scot-free with the violations, while the hapless two-wheelers get caught. The police should also make sure that the traffic signals are switched on at all times. It is quite common to see the cops switch off the signals and direct traffic themselves, leading to more chaos on the roads.
