Economic Offences CBI clamps down on another Customs official Our Bureau
NEW DELHI, May 23 AFTER the arrest of the former Chairman of the Central Board of Excise and Customs Mr B.P. Verma, last year, and the former Chief Commissioner Excise, Mr Someshwar, this year, on charges of graft, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today clamped down on another senior customs official, Capt Virendra Singh, Director-General, National Academy of Customs, Excise and Narcotics, Faridabad. The CBI has registered a case of disproportionate assets against Capt. Virendra Singh who joined the Customs Department in 1972 and was posted in different capacities during 1991 to 1998. A CBI statement said the accused and his family members amassed huge movable and immovable assets, which were disproportionate to known sources of income. Capt. Virendra Singh also made heavy investments in two private firms JBB Properties Pvt Ltd and Cyber Security (P) Ltd. Searches were conducted at three places here including the office, residential and business premises of Capt Virendra Singh and his sons A number of incriminating documents had been recovered so far, the CBI said.
