Infrastructure Queensland offers to boost transport infrastructure Our Bureau
NEW DELHI, May 13 MR Steve Bredhauer, Minister for Transport & Main Roads, Queensland, Australia, on Monday unveiled the world-class transport infrastructure that Queensland offers. At the interactive meeting organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), Mr Bredhauer highlighted the State's world-class capability in building transport infrastructure from which India can benefit. He said Queensland transport and main roads are at the forefront in developing technological and commercially viable solutions to transport management and road safety. He outlined a slew of innovative products and services that have enabled substantial cost savings and income generation to Queensland, which are thereafter directly reinvested into the maintenance and development of transport infrastructure to benefit all transport users. Referring to the ship reporting system, the Minister said: "It is designed to enhance the safety of shipping operations which delivers a monitoring capability on shore, allowing for improved information on the presence, movement and patters of shipping in the area." Speaking on TRAILS (transport registration and integrated licensing system) as a sophisticated and cost-effective solution to integrating core transport business services, the Minister said it worked on the basis of linking licences and vehicle registration to the client, making record management far more effective. On the similarity of challenges in the transport sector in Queensland and India, Mr Bruce Wilson, Director-General, Transport, Queensland, said "Developing a more integrated approach, expanding road and rail networks to improve accessibility to rural areas, enhancing the capacity of shipping and aviation industries, developing a mix of environment-friendly public transport modes are areas of our immediate attention and interest."
