Cairo to host global cotton meet

MUMBAI: The 61st plenary meeting of the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC) will be held during October 20-25 in Cairo, Egypt. The theme of the meet will be `The 21st century cotton industry: Growth through private investment'.

Major topics during the meeting will include Government measures and progress on talks on agriculture under WTO; encouraging investment in the cotton industry; market-based incentives for spinnability-oriented quality evaluation system; measurement and definition of contamination; and price risk management.

A technical seminar on the subject of `Technology, management and processing for quality fibre' will also be held. About 400 participants from across the world are likely to participate. Typically, about two-thirds of participants in ICAC meetings are from the private sector, and about one fourth of participants will be from importing/consuming countries.
