MUMBAI: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has announced the launch of its operations in Uruguay, South America, with the inauguration of its global development centre (GDC) there. TCS is looking at an investment of $30 million and an employee strength of 500 in the country over the next five years, says a company release. The GDC, which is located at the Free Trade Zone of Montevideo, will handle systems development, maintenance and outsourcing, besides testing and certification of software products by third parties, especially Microsoft. The GDC will service most of the Latin American countries including Uruguay, Chile, Argentina, Brazil and Venezuela, besides some parts of the US. Clients that will be actively serviced from the GDC include BCI Bank, AIG, Compaq and Eli Lilliy. The company already has development centres in Budapest, Tokyo, Melbourne, Toronto, New Jersey, Guildford (UK), Phoenix and Columbus.
