Jet Air accounts, holding pattern under scrutiny

Our Bureau

NEW DELHI, May 2

THE Government has ordered scrutiny of the books of accounts of Jet Airways under Section 209A of the Companies Act, 1956, the Law and Company Affairs Minister, Mr Arun Jaitley, informed the Lok Sabha today.

"The shareholding pattern of the company will also be examined during the inspection," he said.

The Department of Company Affairs (DCA) has ordered inspection of the promoter company, Tail Winds Ltd, to find out whether any of its shareholders were of `Arab' origin.

Tail Winds Ltd (TWL), registered in Isle of Mann, is owned by Mr Naresh Goyal, and the company in turn owns Jet Airways.

Intelligence agencies suspect that though Mr Goyal claims complete ownership of TWL, some of the company shares are held by a person of ``Arab origin'', DCA sources said. The intelligence agencies' report about the company was forwarded to the Home Ministry and later referred to the Ministry of Civil Aviation for further comments.
