CHENNAI, May 1

FARMERS who have 20 acres of land and have farming experience of five years are now eligible to immigrate to Canada, according to Lt.Col. B.S. Sandhu, Chairman and Managing Director, Worldwide Immigration Consultancy Services (WWICS).

Lt.Col. Sandhu said that the Canadian Government faced with an ageing workforce and shortage of skilled professionals had opened many more categories under which people could immigrate to Canada.

Besides farmers, the other categories are doctors, nurses, teachers and hospitality professionals.

WWICS, a Canadian immigration and settlement firm, offers the transition service package for those aspiring to migrate to Canada. Lt.Col. Sandhu said that large number of people migrate from India, for instance from Chennai alone, at least 25 families migrate to Canada every month.

He said most professionals who migrated on their own from India found it difficult to settle down in Canada because many professions there were regulated and required licensing and registration.

Though the prerequisites for professionals were work experience, proficiency in English, under 44 years of age, these people still needed professional guidance, he said.
