Accountancy Columns - Account Speak Fellows' funeral
FOR THE ICAI, the three letters FCA are holy. That's why when the ICFAI started giving its CFA degree to its students, the 4-letter body cried `foul'. The latest issue of The Chartered Accountant carries a status report on the 13-year-old litigation between the two. The apex court said some 18 months back that CAs might pursue the CFA course "at their own risk" and things are not resolved yet. But some are already looking at other possible targets for `misusing' the CA tag and more importantly the FCA mark. Suggestions vary: Write to Mr Sanjay Kumar, the President and CEO of Computer Associates, that proclaims itself as `CA'; call California anything other than CA; lobby for ".ca" suffix, snatching it from Canada; get Bill Gates to include ICAI in the definition of `Certification Authority', and so on. A few healthy CAs are writing to the American Cancer Society to change the name of its journal that currently stands as CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians. Anonymous letters are being sent to Cocaine Anonymous whose members are all recovering addicts who maintain their individual sobriety by working with others. On the FCA front, there is more trouble, so sub-teams have been formed to tackle each of the following: Farm Credit Administration of the US government, Federation of Canadian Archers, Family Caregiver Alliance providing long-term care at home, Freight Carriers Association in Canadian trucking industry, Future Communications Architecture for signals intelligence systems, Framework Convention Alliance fighting for strong tobacco control, Formal Concept Analysis in the math domain, Finishing Contractors Association that represents those in painting and so on, and Fawcett Collectors of America. The Falcon and Ferrari Clubs in the US too are being approached. A marathon is planned to convince the Fellowship of Christian Athletes that considers the Bible as `life's game plan'. Sentiments rule high about FCA being explained as Full Cost Accounting. Nobody, however, is approaching the Funeral Consumers Alliance, which is dedicated to a consumer's right to choose a meaningful, dignified, affordable funeral.
