HYDERABAD, April 28

WITH the existence of over 60 biotechnology research units, Hyderabad is fast emerging as a biocity, according to Dr B. S. Bajaj, Chairman of All India Biotech Association (AIBA), Southern Chapter.

Dr Bajaj said that there were more than 35 industrial units in and around the city producing or planning to produce both modern and conventional biotech products.

AIBA, in association with the Andhra Pradesh Government, is organising a three-day international conference on "Emerging trends in biotechnology: Stem cells - technology, potential and trends'' from May 2.

Dr Bajaj said the conference would bring academicians, researchers and industrialists under one roof to discuss the potential and prospects of stem cell-based technologies. The participants would include Prof Martin Evans who received the Albert Lasker award for his research on the modelling of human diseases in rodents.
