Shipping Steamer agents seek berth on Kochi port board Our Bureau
KOCHI, April 25 THE Cochin Steamer Agents' Association has urged the Shipping Ministry to take necessary steps to initiate remedial measures to provide the association due representation on the board of trustees of the Cochin Port Trust for the year 2002-04. In a memorandum to the Shipping Minister, the association President, Mr Bharat S. Asher, said that the representation of steamer agents in the board of the port was a long-pending demand of the association and the Ministry had once again turned down the request to allot a seat in the newly constituted board. He pointed out that the steamer agents had made numerous representations to the port seeking a seat on the board and this year, the port authorities had assured a berth for them in the new board. The association, he said, represents the interest of over 70 steamer agent member companies, who act as agents for the world's leading shipping firms that operate out of the Kochi port.
