BANGALORE April 25

RITTAL India Pvt Ltd, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Rittal Werk, Germany, a manufacturer of enclosure systems, is planning to manufacture enclosure cooling units at its Doddaballapur plant near Bangalore.

The company planned to invest $1.2 million in the new facility expected to be operational by July this year, said Mr Norbert Mueller, President, Friedhelm LOH Group, Germany.

Rittal India proposed to manufacture about 2,000 enclosure cooling units per annum initially and would ramp up the capacity later depending on the demand, he said.

Apart from catering to the local market, the new facility would also export to other Asian countries, Mr Muellar said. Rittal India is currently importing industrial cooling units from its parent company to serve Indian customers. The company planned to target industrial segments such as machine tools, telecom and power electronics with its enclosure cooling systems, said Mr A.K. Nathan, Managing Director, Rittal India.

Local manufacturing would help the company bring down the costs by nearly 20-25 per cent, he added. Mr Muellar inaugurated the company's recently set up electro-phoretic dipcoating facility on Wednesday.

Rittal has invested about $2.5 million in the electrodeposition coating facility.

Rittal India clocked a turnover of Rs 40 crore for the year-ended December 31, 2001, registering a growth of about 20 per cent despite tough market conditions, said Mr Nathan. Export turnover stood at Rs 2.5 crore for the year.

Rittal India exports mainly to its group companies in Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Australia. With the addition of the new manufacturing facility for enclosure cooling unit, the company expected to accelerate its growth by 5-6 per cent this year, and by 10 per cent next year, Mr Nathan added.

Rittal India also manufactures server racks for the IT industry. Nearly 75 per cent of the enclosures manufactured are targeted at industrial applications while 25 per cent at IT applications.

Its customers include IT majors such as Compaq, Dell, Fujitsu, Toshiba, NEC, IBM, Cisco, Reliance Infocom and manufacturing and automotive companies such as Maruti, Ford, Daewoo, Hyundai, PAL, Tata Engineering, Tata Steel, MICO and BFW.
