Tourism Govt committed to promoting tourism: Antony Our Bureau
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, April 24 THE Chief Minister, Mr A.K. Antony, has said that the State Government is committed to promoting tourism and making the State the number one destination of the country. Delivering the inaugural address at the Travel Trade Meet 2002 organised by Kerala Tourism, Mr Antony said that tourism would be one of the core sectors of development in the State. The Government will be according top priority to the tourism sector and its promotion. But the mindset of the people would have to change, Mr Antony said. The Chief Minister also stressed the need to adopt a "new model for development'' to attract massive investment into the State. The erstwhile Kerala model, which had sought to lay stress on the health, education and welfare fronts, would be the base for the new and evolving model as well. But the private sector should have an increasing role to play in this model. "We should not be allergic to private capital. Large-scale foreign and NRI investment is needed here.''
