People Corporate - Announcements Vidya Chhabria is new chief of Jumbo group Our Bureau
MUMBAI, April 22 MS Vidya Manohar Chhabria, wife of Manu Chhabria, who died early this month, has taken over as Chairperson of Shaw Wallace and other group companies. The board of directors of the Jumbo group in India, which controls these companies on Monday nominated Ms Chhabria as the Chairperson of the group. A new corporate governance board comprising select senior executives of the group has been constituted which will focus on business strategy, enhancing value and success rate of new businesses, human resource development and corporate reputation. The board will be responsible for identifying opportunities in terms of new business alliances, brands as well as product lines for the $2-billion Jumbo group that has presence in 50 countries. According to an official press release, in her address to the senior executives of group companies, Ms Chhabria said that the business expansion and profitability improvement would remain key priorities for all Indian businesses. The companies that Ms Chhabria now heads include Shaw Wallace & Company, Maharashtra Distilleries, SKOL Breweries, Shaw Wallace Distilleries, Shaw Wallace Breweries, Hindustan Dorr-Oliver, Mather & Platt, Falcon Tyres, Gordon Woodroffe and Shaw Wallace Hedges with an asset value of $600 million in India.
