London-Mumbai AI flight via Delhi from May

NEW DELHI, April 17

AIR India is scheduled to introduce a weekly service to London from Mumbai via Delhi from May 3, the Minister for Civil Aviation, Mr Syed Shahnawaz Hussain, has said.

In a written reply to a question raised in the Lok Sabha, the Minister added that to avoid off-loading of passengers, the Government had allowed the operation of extra-section flights by foreign airlines up to April 2002.

AI officials in Mumbai told Business Line that the proposed introduction of flights to London would mean that the airline would reintroduce the London terminator flight. The airline's London terminator flight was launched in July last year, but had to be withdrawn after the September 11 incidents in the US.
