HYDERABAD, April 15

THE Andhra Pradesh Cabinet has made it mandatory for local bodies and panchayat raj bodies to get their accounts audited by a Chartered Accountant (CA).

A panel of private CAs would be prepared soon, according to the State Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Mr S. Chandramohan Reddy.

The Cabinet also approved a Rs 93.77-crore contingency plan for rural water supply scheme for 2002-03.

A series of steps to ensure that drinking water reached the remotest village were being taken, Mr Reddy told presspersons.

The State would also spend Rs 40 crore on various development projects in 22 districts under the Calamity Relief Fund during the current fiscal, he said in his post-cabinet meet briefing.

To meet the summer demand for water, Rs 10 crore had been allocated.

Similarly, a total of Rs 15 crore was earmarked for improving the drinking water facilities by urban local bodies, he said.
