NEW DELHI, April 14

BHARAT Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has achieved a major milestone, with one of its power station divisions bagging the Occupational Health and Safety Certification (OHSAS-18001), making it the first construction outfit in the country to get the distinction.

For adhering to international standards and integrating occupational health and safety assessment series requirements, conforming to OHSAS 18001, BHEL's Power Sector-Northern Region (PS-NR) has been awarded the certification by Det Norske Veritas (DNV).

In addition, PS-NR has also bagged the ISO-14001 Environmental Management System certification. The BHEL Chairman and Managing Director, Mr K.G. Ramachandran, received both the accreditation certificates from the DNV Head, Mr A. Venkataram, at a function on Saturday.

Both these systems were established and implemented in the area of `installation and servicing of power plants and industrial equipment.'

BHEL's PS-NR is dedicated to the fast development of power generation in north India.
