White water

AN IMPORTANT skill required of auditors is the ability to sift grain from chaff, look for meanings in mountains of data, and distinguish between flab and muscle. Here are a dozen excerpts from a `popular source' to test such a skill. See if you can separate `milk' from `water'.

  • Men are always judged, in the final analysis, by whether they have been upright and fair, prudent and persevering, and bold and foresighted.

  • There are major house keeping issues that we have to tackle — to blow away the cobwebs of redundant practices, ineffective attitudes and unreal assumptions.

  • We as a profession are known to be absolutely down to earth in our approach to life.

  • What we now need to understand and appreciate is that the very practical assumptions of yesterday may have become impractical and unreal in the context of today.

  • The world has undergone major changes. We are now in danger of becoming divorced from the current reality.

  • Some things of course remain unchanged and unchangeable.

  • We should not dilute our values and standards but upgrade our techniques and skills to match with the demands of the time.

  • The age of specialisation is upon us. We need to choose from specific areas of practice, moving away from general practice, so to speak.

  • It would be important for firms to network so that a range of services could be provided to various organisations and institutions.

  • Now is the time to make our presence felt on the national as well as the international scene.

  • We have the skill and we have the knowledge; and most important, we have a code and a system of values.

  • Let us go afore together and be what we are destined to be.

Well, if you have finished the ordeal and spotted more than 3 /12 as `milk', it is an indication that you could be milked.
