Announcements Kovai Medical to introduce smart cards Our Bureau
COIMBATORE, April 8 THE Kovai Medical Centre and Hospital (KMCH) is introducing `smart card' for its employees. The card is to be formally launched on April 20. According to its Senior Vice-President, Mr U.K. Ananthapadmanabhan, "The card will not only contain the fact file on the employee but is a multi-purpose one as well." The standard credit-card sized smart card, has a micro-chip embedded in it, and can store up to one kilobyte data, which is much more than what the common cards can provide. `It is far more secure and tamper-proof. Multiple functions can be performed with the same card and it will not require online authentication, as the data is all stored in the chip itself', he told Business Line. He said that the hospital had entered into a tie-up with National Insurance Company for insurance cover for not just the employees, but his family members as well. He expressed the hope that it would, in course of time, become a `universal reader'. Emphasising the uniqueness of the `smart card', Mr Ananthapadmanabhan said, "the new age cards are convenient tools of functioning for the authorities". The card has been developed in-house by Aosta Software Technologies India Private Ltd a subsidiary of Aosta Software Technologies incorporated in the US. The company is engaged in developing products exclusively for KMCH. The hospital in the corporate sector is gearing up to kick-start the online pharmacy kmchpharmacy.com in the next fortnight.
