NEW DELHI, April 5

IN a bid to strengthen its presence in the home appliances segment in the country, Samsung India Electronics has announced the launch of five new models in the frost-free refrigerator category and three new models in the top-loading fully automatic washing machines segment.

The new frost-free refrigerators are priced in the range of Rs 37,000 and Rs 93,000. With the introduction of these new models, Samsung now has a range of 11 frost-free models in its line-up, priced in the range of Rs 17,500-Rs 1,16,500.

Says Mr R. Zutshi, Vice-President (Sales), Samsung India Electronics, "We are targeting a 28 per cent growth in our refrigerator business and a market share of 14 per cent in the frost-free refrigerator segment this year."

Samsung has also boosted its presence in the washing machines segment by launching three new fully automatic machines, with 5.5 kg capacity in the Indian market.

Priced between Rs 16,500 and Rs 17,500, the new models have been customised to Indian requirements by being equipped with a new `memory back-up feature'.

With this launch, Samsung now has a total of five fully automatic washing machine models in its range.

"We are targeting a 16 per cent market share in the washing machine segment this year," says Mr Zutshi.

Overall, Samsung is targeting a turnover of Rs 668 crore from its home appliances business, which would account for approximately 44 per cent of its targeted turnover of Rs 1,520 crore.

"We are targeting a growth of 19 per cent in our home appliances business this year and will be investing around Rs 25 crore in the current year towards developing new moulds for our home appliances range," says Mr Zutshi.
