Tripura's plan size fixed

Our Bureau

NEW DELHI, April 2

TRIPURA'S Annual Plan for 2002-03 has been fixed at Rs 625 crore based on identifiable resources of the State at a meeting between the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, Mr K.C. Pant, and the State Chief Minister, Mr Manik Sarkar, on Monday here.

Expressing satisfaction over the performance of the Sate in achieving the Ninth Plan target, the Deputy Chairman said project implementation in the State had been generally better. He cautioned the State about the low productivity of crops such as maize, pulses and vegetables, which is lower than the national average.

Reviewing the functioning of State-owned enterprises, he said the State should consider the possibilities of different management and ownership structures to improve the performance.

Apprising the Plan panel of financial performance of the State, Mr Sarkar said the State had not resorted to any overdraft in the last four years. All Plan and non-Plan commitments had been met as per Budget. He said the State has also taken steps to launch perspective plans for ten years so as to become self-sufficient in food grains.
