Anti-dumping duty on caustic soda imports

NEW DELHI, March 28
THE Finance Ministry has imposed provisional anti-dumping duty on all imports of caustic soda from Qatar.
Based on the recommendations of the designated authority in the Commerce and Industry Ministry, the Revenue Department has now imposed a provisional anti-dumping duty of $48.5 per tonne on caustic soda exports made by Qatar Vinyl Company Ltd.
For all other exporters/producers of caustic soda from Qatar, the Revenue Department has imposed a provisional anti-dumping duty of $58.6 per tonne. Caustic soda is an inorganic, soapy, strongly alkaline and odourless chemical and finds application in various fields such as manufacture of pulp and paper, newsprint, viscose yarn, staple fibre, aluminium, cotton, textiles, toilet and laundry soaps, detergent, dyestuffs, drugs and pharmaceuticals and petroleum refining.
The petition seeking anti-dumping probe on caustic soda imports from Qatar was filed by the Alkali Manufacturers' Association of India on behalf of the domestic industry. The petition was supported by DCW Ltd, Gujarat Alkalies & Chemicals Ltd, Search Chem Industries, Grasim Industries Ltd and Indian Rayon & Industries Ltd. .
