Toddy tapping

A toddy tapper at Anthikkad, Thrissur district of Kerala, reaching a coconut tree top using the Sri Lankan tight-rope method. Despite a huge demand-supply gap, production of coconut toddy in the State is stagnant at around 5.54 lakh litres per day. Though about 30,000 workers are tapping about 3.69 lakh trees, productivity of toddy tapping is quite low at 1.49 litres/tree/day.
