Oilseeds & Edible Oil Corporate - Enterprise Resource Planning ERP package for seed companies M. Somasekhar
HYDERABAD, March 27 SEED companies in Andhra Pradesh are showing keen interest in utilising the potential of information technology (IT) by deploying cost-effective solutions to reap long-term benefits. A small, entrepreneur-driven, IT company Positive Solutions, based in Hyderabad, has been able to bring into its fold more than a handful of agri-seeds companies to implement a customised ERP (enterprise resource planning) solution. These companies include Tulasi Seeds of Guntur, Ganga Cauvery Seeds and Unicorn Group of Hyderabad. After understanding the working of the seed firms and their needs from the field to the corporate offices, Positive Solutions has developed an ERP package and wants to call it Plan Agro, according to Mr Bhagwan Gorti, Chief Executive Officer. The package is a restructured version from PIERS Positive Intelligent Enterprise Reporting System which is the company's generic ERP package, Mr Gorti told Business Line. Plan Agro, now in advanced stage of field trials, is expected to become functional in nine agri entities starting April this year. "We are customising the solution to the requirement of the client. Our people work closely with the farmers, researchers, sales force and the corporate heads before formulating the package,'' Mr. Gorti said. The major benefits claimed by Positive Solutions are cutting down on data redundancy, consistency in information at various levels, cutting down communication costs, ensuring daily reporting by various staff and simplifying collection process. In cases where the company had multiple crops, the package would help maintain stock levels, costings etc. The seed production centres, sales offices and the corporate office were networked in this system to ensure efficient deployment of the ERP solution, Mr Gorti said.
