Opposition bandh in TN today

CHENNAI: Opposition parties in Tamil Nadu have given a bandh call in the Cauvery delta districts on Saturday to protest the State Government's action in closing direct paddy procurement centres in the region.

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Ms J. Jayalalithaa, had recently said that village level procurement centres would be closed from March 15 as it was brought to the Government's notice that some `middlemen' and traders were flooding the centres with `low grade paddy' purchased from other places when harvest in the delta region was practically over.
