CHENNAI, March 20

THE Tamil Nadu Government on Wednesday signed an MoU with APEDA (Agriculture and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority) of the Commerce Ministry to set up a Rs 24.85-crore agri-export zone for cut flowers.

The export zone is to come up near Hosur in Dharmapuri district. The area is known for its hi-tech horticulture and floriculture activity, and exports Rs 30 crore worth of cut flowers per year. It sells Rs 15 crore worth in the domestic market. The district has been declared a development zone for export floriculture activity, and Tanflora, the infrastructure park for floriculture, will implement the programme, according to an official press release. Tanflora is a joint venture between the private sector and the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO).

The infrastructure park, extending over 80 acres, will provide common infrastructure facilities for over 50 cut-flower units. It will help investors to make use of State and Centrally-sponsored assistance schemes and enable human resource development.
