Tea Tea prices spurt at Kochi sale Our Bureau
KOCHI, March 17 A GOOD general demand resulted in the spurting of prices of almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi tea auction. The dust sale witnessed a strong general demand and the quantity on offer was 741,000 kg. The CTC market was dearer by Rs 2-5 per kg. Orthodox highgrowns remained steady, while mediums were dearer. The best CTC varieties commanded prices between Rs 60-79, medium CTC realised Rs 45-55 and poorer type were quoted Rs 38-44. Highgrown BOPD fetched prices between Rs 82-102, while medium BOPD realised Rs 39-45. Secondaries were quoted at Rs 25-30. The leaf sale also witnessed a good general demand and the quantity on offer was 392,000 kg. The market for orthodox leaf grades were steady and tended to ease. CTCs were fully firm to dearer. CIS buyers and other exporters extended good support. The best Nilgiri varieties commanded prices between Rs 60-70, medium Orthodox realised Rs 45-53 and plain Orthodox were quoted at Rs 37-41. The best CTC leaf fetched prices between Rs 40-55, while medium CTC leaf realised Rs 38-40. In the dust category, Kodanad BOPD fetched the best prices of Rs 102 followed by Nonsuch BOPD by Rs 82.50. In the leaf varieties, Chamraj OP realised the best prices of Rs 109 followed by Glendale OP by Rs 95.50.
