Strategy NDTV World to focus on entertainment Our Bureau
NEW DELHI, March 12 NDTV World, the 100 per cent subsidiary of NDTV, is working towards broadening its range of content to include more than just news and current affairs-based programmes. Speaking to the media, at the preview of `Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai', a new celebrity show that NDTV World has produced for Zee TV, Dr Prannoy Roy, President of NDTV, said that providing entertainment programming content to various channels would be the company's new focus area for the next couple of years. "We have already produced two non-news based shows in the past - Chuppa Rustam and Ji Mantriji. We are not ruling out producing entertainment programmes of all genres. We are also open to providing content to all channels which want content from us," said Dr Roy said. However, Dr Roy was tight-lipped about NDTV's relationship with Star TV as its contract with the Rupert Murdoch's Star group expires in 2003. Industry watchers point out that NDTV's decision to venture into entertainment-based programming is probably the first step that it is taking to prepare for `life after Star'. `Jeena Isi Ka...' goes on air from March 22 at 9 pm prime time on Fridays. The company has planned 52 episodes of the show.
