Tea Transport subsidy for Guwahati tea Our Bureau
GUWAHATI, March 12 THE Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry has directed the Tea Board to grant transport subsidy at the rate of Re 1 per kg of tea exported from ICD, Amingaon with effect from January 1. A press release from the Federation of Industries and Commerce of North Eastern Region (FINER) stated that it was a necessary and welcome benefit and would serve as a major source of revenue for the ailing tea industry. FINER's efforts for the grant were supported by the Tea Board, the Indian Tea Association and other major tea exporters. FINER's Director, Mr Sudip De, had appealed to the Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Mr Murasoli Maran, for granting the subsidy at an interactive session organised by FIEO at Kolkata on March 6 last. And within 24 hours of the submission of the proposal, the Union Minister issued necessary directives to the Tea Board to the effect.
