Rubbermark to export 20,000 t

Aravindan

KOTTAYAM, March 12

THE Union Government has approved a proposal to export 20,000 tonnes of sheet rubber equivalent to RSS4 grade put by the Kerala State Co-operative Rubber Marketing Federation (Rubbermark). The loss to be incurred by the Federation by way of export will be met by the State and Central Governments.

The letter of credit has been opened for exporting 3,000 tonnes this month itself according to the agreement signed by the federation with a company in Si

ngapore. For the first time in the history of the rubber plantation industry in India, orders for exporting a quantity as high as 20,000 tonnes has been received, said trading circles here.

The Federation also obtained an order to export 500 of rubber latex from a German firm.

A few companies have come forward for regular export of rubber sheets and latex, according to the Rubber Board. The Chemicals and Allied Products Export Promotion Council (Capexil), which is now exporting rubber products, is also interested in exporting natural rubber.

To improve the quality of sheets, the Rubber Board will disburse Rs 1.75 crore to the rubber-producing societies. The board will also give Rs 5 crore for upgradation and modernisation of the existing factories which process crumb rubber and centrifuged latex under private and public sectors.

Since the lifting of import regulations, more rubber is being imported into the country. Some developed countries including the US are interested in purchasing natural rubber from India. Direct exports to rubber goods manufacturers abroad is also being pursued instead of the sale to trading houses there, the Rubber Board officials said.
