Cardiac awareness camp for policemen

BANGALORE, March 9

A "Cardiac Awareness and Check-up Camp' for policemen was organised at the Heart Centre here yesterday.

According to Dr S. S. Ramesh, chief cardiologist, high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol are found prevalent among nearly half of the 199 police personnel who attended the two-day camp.

About 30 per cent of policemen were found to be smokers, some of them smoking more than 40 cigarettes per day. 17 per cent had high blood pressure, 15 per cent diabetes and 14 per cent high cholesterol, while 26 per cent were overweight, he said.

Counselling on diet, exercise and control various risk factors was also done, he said.
