PSU Combined profit of PSUs up 9.22 pc in 2000-01 -- ONGC tops list with Rs 5,229 crore Our Bureau
NEW DELHI, March 9 THE 234 operating Central public sector undertakings (CPSUs) have together recorded a 9.22 per cent increase in their combined net profit during the financial year 2000-01, according to an annual report on the performance of CPSUs released here by the Department of Public Enterprises under the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises. While ONGC has topped the list of profitable PSUs during the year with a net profit of Rs 5,228.78 crore, Hindustan Fertiliser has registered the largest loss of Rs 1,956.58 crore. Investments in the PSUs went up during the year by Rs 21,369 crore from Rs 2,52,745 crore to Rs 2,74,114 crore registering an increase of 8.45 per cent. The combined turnover increased by Rs 69,028 crore from Rs 3,89,199 crore to Rs 4,58,227 crore, an increase of 17.73 per cent. Return on equity capital employed stood at 18.17 per cent, while earnings per share with a face value of Rs 10 stood at Rs 1.82 ie 18.2 per cent. The total capital employed by the CPSUs went up by 9.17 per cent from Rs 3,02,867 crore to Rs 3,30,649 crore. Foreign exchange earnings of the PSUs taken together increased from Rs 19,737 crore to Rs 24,772 crore, registering an increase of 25.51 per cent. Dividend payment by the PSUs improved by 51.4 per cent from Rs 5,455 crore to Rs 8,260 crore. The contribution to the Central exchequer by the PSUs by way of excise duty, customs duty, corporate tax, interest on Central government loans, dividends and other duties and taxes went up by Rs 4,821 crore from Rs 56,157 crore to Rs 60,978 crore.
