Taxation Government - States Kerala to levy entry tax Our Bureau
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, March 8 THE Kerala Budget for 2002-03, presented today, does not contain any major tax proposals, except for a moderate dose of entry tax on an assortment of goods and changes in the tax structure for petroleum products. The Budget proposes an amendment to the Kerala Chittys Act, 1975 with a view to offering protection to investors. The entry tax on a variety of goods will raise an additional revenue of Rs 30 crore. The items include: electrical goods (8 per cent), water supply and sanitary equipment and fittings (12 per cent), edible and inedible oils, including refined and hydrogenated oil and margarine (4 per cent), timber (12 per cent), granite metal, chips and powder (8 per cent), light diesel oil (37 per cent), fans, grinders, cooking ranges, water heaters and electrical wiring cables (12 per cent) and live chicken and meat (8 per cent).
