MUMBAI, Feb. 27

VOLUMES in the derivative segment on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on Wednesday crossed the Rs 1,500 crore mark for the first time.

In Wednesday's trading the total volume recorded on the individual stock futures also crossed the Rs 1,000 crore for the first time. Stock futures is the fastest growing segment among the various equity derivatives products on NSE and have crossed the Rs 1,000 crore in just over three months of their launch.

The total trading volume on the NSE's derivatives market was Rs 1,530.33 crore while volume was at Rs 1,005.57 crore in the individual stock futures.

In a statement, NSE said volume in the options on individual stock was at Rs 288.70 crore. S&P CNX Nifty futures recorded volume of Rs 201.33 crore and S&P CNX Nifty options was Rs 34.63 crore.

The total trading in the derivatives market of NSE was 53 per cent of the Wednesday's cash market turnover at Rs 2878.84 crore.

Market players feel that the rise in the volume in the derivatives segment is mainly due to individual stock futures. Analysts feel that the volume in the derivatives segment is expected to increase in the days to come as FIIs have been recently allowed to invest in derivatives market.
